A Spring Break vacation spent giving back. Our program gives American college students an opportunity to give back in the unique and awe inspiring community of Parque de la Papa located south of Cusco, in the roots of the Andes. A remarkable and unique region made up of six communities whose livelihood and culture center around the potato, Parque de la Papa is an off-the-beaten-path community filled with breathtaking landscapes and a rich and diverse culture. The community has a need for volunteers to help them towards their goal of environmental sustainability.

Students Studying in Peru receive:
- Spend time assisting the villagers of Parque de la Papa build homes, plant trees, and develop sustainable agricultural practices
- Be immersed in Peruvian Spanish and Kitchawan culture and language
- Develop relationships that will last a lifetime
- Spend a day at cultural heritage site Machu Picchu, named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World
- Tour Cusco with access to the city’s museums and cultural attractions
- Access Internet and computer labs both abroad and upon return
- Discounted admission to nightlife activities
- Have access to 24-hour MSMF staff support services
Requirements
No previous Spanish language is required. Orientation sessions will be held to familiarize students with local customs and traveling safety issues. The residents of Parque de la Papa have asked that students bring a short 2-3 minute video of their lives to share their culture. MSMF provides flip cameras and encourages students to document your travel and cultural learning as well to share once you return home. Documentary workshops are available at MSMF at no cost to students traveling with us. We also offer a computer lab with video editing software for students upon return.
